was down in London to see Kevin Spacey and Jeff Goldblum at the
Old Vic in David Mamet's "Speed the Plow." Which, as they say, was good.
Being cultured types the magnificent Deb and I also went to see the
Juan Munoz retrospective at the Tate Modern which was also pretty damn good, but different, obviously.
And we got drunk. More than once. And it was freezing, with squalls.
Next weekend will be in Blackpool walking on the
beach and drinking beer at night. Nothing clever or imaginative but hey, it's off time.

Ah, lovely news! I raise a virtual glass of champers to you and Debbie. Nice to hear some good news in the land of blogs...
I went to the Tate too (as I'm on school holidays), just think, we might have passed each other on the enormous escalators. Went to see Marcel Duchamp and his 'Fountain' instead though, as Juan Munoz scares the crap out of me...
Annie,
Why thank you very much. Ha ha, not been in lurve for such a long time I'm almost giddy with it. Wey hey! Re the Munoz, I struggle to say what I enjoyed the most, virtually all the pieces moved me and especially the room full of conversing figures. By walking around those figures the spectator was made to feel left out, placed outside of conversations we couldn't be part of. The conversing crowd worked really well at making the viewer self conscious but also in a way absent because you couldn't make an impression on the figures, only they could make an impression on you. Very strange and a bit disconcerting which makes it good art as far I'm concerned and this is before we even get to the aesthetics of the piece. I thought the whole show was excellent, all of it, every bit. Then to add cream to a wonderful cake the exhibition is in the Tate Modern which I love. Hey, also liked the crack in the turbine hall floor which is very clever. What a brilliant conceit to make people ignore that huge space by forcing them to look down and not up, and as an added bonus children seemed to love it too.
We probably did pass on an escalator. Shame we didn't manage to say hello. Maybe next time.

I love Kevin Spacy movies, but I would like to see him on stage, but Jeff Goldblum? Was he being chased by Dinosaurs or Aliens?
K,
The pair of them were excellent. The play is very fast and full of that thing US actors do so well when they cut up each other's sentences. Kevin Spacey is such a great actor and Jeff Goldblum was really good too. I kept having to pinch myself to stop saying "Bloody hell that's Kevin Spacey and Jeff Goldblum!" The piece really flowed and their performances drew us into the plot. The Bobby Gould character played by Goldblum was a Hollywood Producer shark, all sleek, ego and menace. Charlie Fox (Spacey) was a business acquaintance selling him a plot. The third character was a female secretary who seduces Bobby Gould and almost persuades him to put millions into a film that Charlie Fox knows will be a turkey. It's a great play with two great performances. I was impressed, to say the least.
