I've not been to Llandudno, but did visit Conwy - tried to go from there to Snowdonia but got lost and somehow ended up back in Cardiff. Never figured out what went wrong. Gave up and went to Edinburgh, easier to find. Lovely countryside.
Actually drove through Conwy yesterday, well, drove under the rivermouth through the tunnel. Not sure how you missed Snowdonia cos it's pretty huge by British standards, but then again when hills and mountains are crowded together it's easy to get confused.
And I agree with you cities are easier to locate, better signposted as well I tend to find.

could have been in the midst of Snowdonia and just didn't know: nary a sign on the roads, and we got quite confused.
In Scotland we ran into a Welsh couple and I commented on getting lost there - they didn't seem surprised, said it had happened to them many times.
